Childhood Sexual Abuse – The Body Keeps The Score.

October 27 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Online: Ten Topics from the Pesso Boyden framework for trauma-informed therapeutic healing.
Monday October 27th 2025 from 10am – 2pm

Because the impact of trauma is held in the body – as well as the mind – the healing of child sexual abuse happens most effectively when both mind and body are involved.

Juliet Grayson will be introducing you to the body-based therapy called Pesso Boyden System of Psychotherapy (PBSP) – and talking you through how this can be used for people who have experienced child sexual abuse.

As Bessel Van der Kolk – renowned trauma specialist, and admirer of the co-founder of this method: Al Pesso’s work – said, “The healing tableaus of [PBSP] structures offer an experience that many participants would have never believed was possible for them: to be welcomed into a world where people delight in them, protect them, meet their needs and make you feel at home.” (from his book ‘The Body Keeps the Score’).

PBSP has a comprehensive theoretical framework for working with child sexual abuse. This impacts bottom up, brain stem responses, reflexes and automatic survival patterns as well as with the top down parts, involved in thinking, speaking, and our current emotional awareness.

Juliet will share a PBSP model: the 10 themes that commonly arise when working with people who were sexually abused as children. Juliet will be showing a few short films, which are extracts of client sessions, to give a powerful illustration of how PBSP works with the body.

Whilst recognising that the majority of people attending this talk will not be trained PBSP therapists, Juliet hopes to alert them to some of the more obscure needs of clients who are dealing with these issues.

Over half of Juliet Grayson’s book: Landscapes of the Heart: The working world of a sex and relationship therapist – is about PBSP. It is available to purchase via Amazon or https://landscapesoftheheart.co.uk/

There will be two short breaks during the presentation.
