LGBTQ+ Allyship

September 18 @ 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm
Ever wanted to stand up for LGBTQ+ people, but didn’t know where to start? Our short engaging course will show you how!

SAYiT has developed a brand new course for Pride 2023 – LGBTQ+ Allyship

The LGBTQ+ community have seen horrendous rises in hate crime – In the last 12 months there has been a 41% increase in hate crime based on sexuality, and a 56% increase in hate crime based on gender identity. Victor Madrigal-Borloz, a UN independent expert, was incredibly concerned about what is happening to LGBTQ+ people in the UK, saying “a rampant surge in hate crimes has been attributed to the toxic nature of public debate surrounding sexual orientation and gender identity”.

Our allyship training includes:

– What does allyship mean? – What makes a good ally?

– Intervention techniques and how to assess risk.

– Ways to avoid ‘performative’ allyship.

– Best practice for ‘corporate’ allyship.

– Intersectionality, and how this impacts marginalised groups such as LGBTQ+

– How to stand up for others, and when to stand back.

– A look at unconscious bias, and how to combat this.

We want you all to be the best allies that you can be, because everyone can be an ally.

Why chose SAYiT Training?

Do you want to liberate your staff to feel more comfortable and confident in supporting LGBTQ+ customers, clients and workmates?

Are you struggling to keep up to date in a rapidly changing environment?

SAYiT is the largest LGBTQ+ organisation in the South Yorkshire region and has been established since 1999. We have the unique perspective of working directly with thousands of LGBTQ+ youth, this helps us stay specialist, current and informs the content of our training sessions.

We are members of multiple national, regional and local networks, so our material is constantly being refreshed and kept up to date.

We work with statutory services as well as grass roots organisations to ensure support is available for all communities.

We are always growing, developing and expanding our training offer and content.

If these dates don’t work for you, get in touch! We can arrange another session especially for you at no extra cost. Email me at fiona.moorcroft@sayit.org.uk

Please ensure you have an up to date account with Microsoft Teams and are logged in ahead of time ready for the training to start at the scheduled time.
