Workshop Overview

This interactive workshop is designed for therapists and counsellors working with couples where one partner has committed a sexual offence. Participants will gain practical tools to navigate:

  • Fractured trust and relational repair
  • Intimacy, sexual difficulties, and consent challenges
  • Disclosure dilemmas: children, family, and community
  • Navigating external systems: probation, safeguarding, and societal judgment
  • Managing shame, guilt, and moral injury
  • Therapist self-awareness: boundaries, collusion, and over-identification

Learning Objectives

By the end of the workshop, participants will have considered how to:

  • Support both partners in rebuilding trust and managing emotional complexity
  • Facilitate safe dialogue around intimacy, disclosure, and boundaries
  • Apply strategies to contain shame, fear, and anger
  • Navigate external systems ethically while maintaining therapeutic integrity
  • Use case vignettes, role-plays, and exercises to enhance practical skills
